THIS PESEK AGAIN... William Pesek- the Bloomberg columnist based in Tokyo has concluded in his recent article that: 1. Touch the dog and beer/Ocotoberfest issues mean Malaysia under the leadership of DS Najib is a failing nation; 2. The only solution to this is by dismantling New Economic Policy and embracing meritocracy totally; and 3. Indonesia has done that by electing Jokowi on merit since he is a nobody. Again, Pesek concluded in simplistic and generalised manner. The newly-elected Jokowi has achieved nothing yet while our Prime Minister has delivered 5 continuous years of economic growth. His president, the nobody Mr Barack Obama did even worse. He practically has reneged his own promise to close down Guantanamo Prison. As for the silly issues like dog and beer, this proves Malaysia is a robust democracy. People in Malaysia are free to argue hard and express their views even regarding on dogs and beers and no one get arrested. In Peseks own country, those who make anti-semitism remarks will be jailed for years. So much of press freedom. Pesek argued that why the Obamania or Jokowi-mania cant be replicated in Malaysia if we truly a democratic country. Did he choose to forget that Malaysia is a parliamentary democracy where the head of the Government is not elected through Presidential Election? Even if he seems to believe that meritocracy has no place in Malaysia simply because the sons of previous Prime Minister or Royal family have elevated to the highest office in Malaysia, does he forgot the fourth prime minister of Malaysia is an ordinary Malaysian when he joined politics? Isnt that meritocracy? I admit this is the third time I have replied to his article but nothing personal, I just dislike the idea of foreign commentator who self-styled himself as an independent analyst but the truth is he unabashedly confessed to be one of the Anwar Ibrahim’s admirer. So much of balanced view isnt it? More to come Pesek. MatRodi
