THE SPHINX VIRTUOSI PERFORMANCE Sunday, October 27, 2013 4:00 pm ARTS CENTER OF COASTAL CAROLINA presented by the Arts Center and the HHSO Fresh from Carnegie Hall, the Sphinx Virtuosi will perform this weekend at the Arts Center, brought to you by a partnership of the Arts Center and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. These young artists are a breathtaking chamber orchestra comprised of alumni from the Sphinx Competition for young black and Latino string players. They have earned rave reviews from The New York Times, who described their performance as “first rate in every way” and an ensemble that “produced a more beautiful, precise and carefully shaped sound than some fully professional orchestras that come through Carnegie Hall in the course of a year”. They will play a diverse program featuring a well-known repertoire of works by Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Michael Abels, Bach and Perkinson, in addition to pieces by Africa-American and Latino composers.
