THIS WAS TOO FUNNY! Just called for a Jury Duty postponement. I let them know I am a homeschooling father whose wife works therefore I would be considered the Caregiver of my five children under 8. Then the fun started: Jury Office: I dont understand. Me: I am the caregiver of my children and their home school teacher, I cannot be absent. JO: Tell your superior that you need off. Your children will be fine in school. You will be home by 5pm. Me: Im sorry Miss, let me explain. I homeschool my children. I am the superior. They wont be fine in school without me because that means they will be home alone without me. JO:You cannot leave your children unattended while you are here sir. Besides they should be enrolled in school. Me: I know. and they are enrolled in a school. We are a homeschooling family. I am also the caregiver. My wife works. And I stay home to homeschool them. I cannot come to jury duty because I need to be home with them. I teach them at home. I am their teacher. We homeschool our children. I am home with them during the day and am their caregiver. JO: Im not sure if thats legal sir. Me: It is perfectly legal. But my point is I am their teacher and caregiver. On your summons caregiver is a reason for excuse from jury duty service. I need a postponement because of this. Do you know what homeschooling is? JO: Were the government. I cant say yes or no to that question. Me: I see. But do you understand my situation? JO: Whatever. Hold for a postponement date. You should really make sure that your children go to school though. Its important to get an education. Me: Yes, thank you. Il look into the whole education thing. Have a good day. Yeah....Gotta love the government.
