THIS WEEK IN HISTORY In the Dec. 15, 1947 issue of WLJ, Publisher Nelson Crow reflects on the paper’s first 25 years: “As far as this journal is concerned, we have shared in the good times and the difficult times. Our fortunes have gone up and down in direct relation to the fortunes of our friends in the livestock business. And it always will be that way. As to the immediate future, we are optimistic. We believe that we have many years of prosperity ahead, and we believe that the livestock business is fundamentally sound. Our herds and flocks during the war produced a huge amount of meat, so much that Americans have been the best fed people on earth, and we have had enough to share with the people of less fortunate nations.”
