THIS WEEK IN WEATHER HISTORY (NOV.2 – NOV.8) -NOV.2,1961: A F0 tornado touched down just SW of the town of Pleasant Hill in Sabine Parish,LA. One person was injured. -NOV.2,1961:A small tornado struck the Mid-Valley Pipe Line pump station southwest of Longview, TX unroofing a residence, and causing minor damage to the pump station. The tornado moved NE into the city of Longview unroofing a large tin barn and damaging a frame garage. -NOV.2,1961:A tornado moved across Lake Cherokee in Gregg County,TX. The twister stuck a nearby power plant, shattering 16 windows and stripping limbs from trees. -NOV.3,2000: A tornado touched down near the town of Diboll, TX in Angelina County. An 18-wheeler was blown over on Highway 59 as the tornado moved over the truck while the truck was in motion. Also several buildings lost portions of their roofs and many trees were damaged. Two people were injured in this storm. -NOV.4,1959:A strong tornado touched down in the eastern section of Marshall,TX. Four oil tanks damaged, one house unroofed, several barns and outbuildings destroyed, drive-in theater screen destroyed, and several trees were uprooted. -NOV.4,1986: A F1 tornado struck a quarter horse farm, demolishing two mobile homes and a barn. Two people were injured. -NOV. 5,1997:A tornado touched down 5.5 miles south of Nashville, AR. Damage initially consisted of broken and felled trees. The tornado then moved over cleared pastureland and intensified on CR318 between Hwy 4 and CR 44; totally destroying several chicken coups...leaving the chickens untouched. Also, the tornado slightly damaged a house, and blew a tree onto a car. -NOV.7,1986: A F2 tornado moved through Jackson Parish, LA in the Jonesboro area. It destroyed several trees, a mobile home, and 2 brick homes. The twister also tore off the front part of a grocery store and the roof of a neighboring house. -NOV.7,1996: A tornado touched down in the Carmel Community in De Soto Parish and moved NE to the community of Westdale in Red River Parish.Two roofs were damaged in Carmel while three other homes suffered major damage. A roof rafter from one of the homes was driven several feet into the ground. The tornado then crossed Hwy 509 where many trees were snapped in half. As the tornado crossed I-49 hundreds of trees were damaged along with Highway signs blown down. -NOV.3 1992:TORNADO OUTBREAK Four separate severe thunderstorms developed rapidly ahead of a line of thunderstorms in NE Texas and NW Louisiana. The storms moved NE at 40mph producing 16 tornadoes in the region. In addition to the tornadoes, there were several reports of golf ball size hail and straight line wind damage. CADDO PARISH:A tornado destroyed 3 hangars and damaged 3 others, took off the roof of a large building and damaged 21 planes at the Shreveport Downtown Airport. A 63 yr old woman was injured when a tree fell on top of her. BOSSIER PARISH:A tornado took off the roofs of 4 buildings, blew down several trees, and damaged two B52H bombers and a KC 135 tanker. Golf ball size hail put dents in many cars and broke some windshields. Egg size (2 in.) hail was reported 3 miles NW of Haughton. DESOTO PARISH:Two tornadoes touched down in the Parish at 2:40 and 2:48pm. The first one damage trees 13 miles SW of Mansfield. The second one demolished 3 barns and uprooted many trees 3 miles NE of Pelican. WEBSTER PARISH:A tornado destroyed numerous trees and blew and unoccupied car around a utility ole 2 miles west of Dixie Inn. Another tornado blew down many trees 5 miles NE of Minden. BIENVILLE PARISH:A strong tornado (F3) touched down in the town of Arcadia, destroying 12 homes, and 2 businesses. Another 75 homes sustained moderate to severe damage and another 35 homes and/or businesses received light damage. Fortunately, there were no injuries. CLAIBORNE PARISH: A tornado destroyed 5 barns and blew a farm trailer into a utility pole 7 miles SW of Homer. RED RIVER PARISH: A locomotive engineer observed a tornado moving across railroad tracks in a rural area 4 miles north of Lake End. LINCOLN PARISH: A tornado blew down several trees in a rural area 4 miles north of Simsboro. JACKSON PARISH: A tornado uprooted many trees 8 miles SE of Chatham. WINN PARISH: Two tornadoes touched down in the parish. One tornado uprooted many trees 6 miles north of Winnfield. The other destroyed 5 outbuildings and rolled over a tractor just north of Sikes. UNION PARISH: A tornado partially destroyed 2 homes, blew down numerous trees, heavily damaged 3 automobiles, and destroyed 2 fishing camps 7 miles west of Farmerville. CALDWELL PARISH: A tornado uprooted numerous trees and destroyed 2 fishing camps 3 miles west of Herbert. SHELBY COUNTY,TX: A tornado touched down briefly in open country, 8 miles SE of Center.
