Bring up to 25 digital images on a disc or thumb drive, or prints to share, or just come to enjoy great photography. Tuesday, January 13 • What & Where: Winter Outing, To be determined by the weather & snow conditions • Where’s That & Map? To be determined • Leader: Evans Fletcher, 965-248 • Departure Time & Place: 8:00 am @ South End 40th Avenue Bi-Mart Parking Lot • Notes: The location of this outing will be determined by the leader close to the date of the trip to seek best conditions. If there’s snow in the mountains, come prepared for anything, skiing, snowshoeing or hiking. If there is good snow coverage then skiing or snowshoeing. Tuesday, January 13 • Horse Haven Hills (Richland area) 8 miles, 1000 elevation gain. Leader: Jim Brown. 453-3729 Meet 40th Ave Bi-mart 7:45am, leave 8:00am • Notes: Contact Rudy Labernik at rudypaula@q to be added to the Tuesday Free Spirits weekly e-mail list. Tuesday Free Spirits are an intermediate group between the Pokies and the Tuesday Trekkers. They hike a little faster, farther and climb a little more elevation than the Pokies, but slower, not as far and not as much elevation gain than the Tuesday Trekkers. Thursday, January 15 • What & Where: Pokies Hike or Snowshoe, Rimrock Peninsula or Pleasant Valley • Where’s That & Map? White Pass or Chinook Pass, Map not provided • Leader: Rudy Labernik, 248-7304 • Departure Time & Place: 9:00 am @ South End 40th Avenue Bi-Mart Parking Lot • Notes: True to his “campaign for board statement”, Rudy has stepped up one more time, filling this snow date for Bertha Bustos, recovering from mid-December foot surgery. His destination will be decided closer to the date. Usual stuff, lunch, Golden Age/Senior Pass for Pleasant Valley. Call Rudy! Friday, January 16 • What & Where: Informal Downhill & Cross Country Ski Gathering, White Pass • Leader: No leader, completely informal • Departure Time & Place: 8:00 am @ South End 40th Avenue Bi-Mart • Notes: Fridays when White Pass is open Club members downhill ski at While Pass in the morning, then cross country ski in the afternoon. This is an informal gathering, not a formal Cascadian outing. If you wish to car pool, check Bi-Mart by 8:00 am to see if anyone else is going up. Questions can be directed to Evans Fletcher at 833-9529. Saturday, January 17 • What & Where: Davids Saturday Snowshoe #2, To be determined • Where’s That & Map? To be determined • Leader: David Hagen, 965-3697 • Departure Time & Place: 8:30 am @ South End 40th Avenue Bi-Mart Parking Lot • Notes: Davids Saturday Snowshoes are usually easy-intermediate to easy-advanced with a leisurely lunch. The destination is usually decided by the leader on his way to the Bi-Mart and is determined by the weather & the leaders whim for the best conditions. Come prepared for winter weather. The 13 Essentials, especially extra clothes, are mandatory! Drivers will most likely need a Discover Pass or Sno-Park Pass. Sunday, January 18 • What & Where: Bill & Kim’s Excellent Sunset & New Moon Adventure, White Bluffs South • Where’s That & Map? Wahluke National Wildlife Refuge on the Columbia River, Map not provided • Leader: Kim Hull, 853-8698 & Bill Dezellem, 945-2320 • Departure Time & Place: 1:30 pm @ South End 40th Avenue Bi-Mart Parking Lot • Notes: Big skies above the mighty Columbia River stretched above cliffs of layered sandstone promise a spectacular sunset on a wintry new moon night! And no moon on a new moon night will promise a gazillion stars in these big desert skies! What more could you ask for?! Join us on an easy walk along the high cliffs, as we weave in and out amongst the draws with views spanning miles, a horizon decorated with the silhouettes of Adams and Rainier, and the serenading songs of coyotes and Canadian Geese. Well hike for as long as we like to a pretty vantage point and dine in the dark. Expect 5+ miles and very little elevation gain. Please come prepared with a headlamp and extra batteries. The wind atop the cliffs could be chilly; bring plenty of warm clothes, gloves and hat. Cookies & cocoa are required!
