THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE: James 1:27 tells us, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” May we practice ‘pure religion’ by spending time with those in need. Perhaps you know someone that has just lost a loved one. Spend some time with them. Too often, we stay away from those who are bereaved because we just don’t know what to say to them. Do not let that be a hindrance. Most of the time, those who are grieving, just want someone to sit with them. They just don’t want to be alone and long to feel the love of family or a close friend. Visit a shut-in, someone in a nursing home, or someone who has just lost a loved one. Spend some time visiting with them, reading to them from God’s Word, and showing them the love of God. Make it a point to find someone who is hurting or lonesome. Make time for a visit. You will be amazed how appreciative they are. As you are seeking to practice this pure religion, don’t forget the last part of the verse, “keep himself unspotted from the world.”
