Thank you in advance. :) From The Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe San Francisco Dear Family and Friends, I’m asking that you start your Christmas giving a little early this year. I raise funds to support Fr. Amogene Charles and his company of Franciscan brothers and nuns in Petion-ville, Haiti. Petion-ville is part of Port-au-Prince, near the center of the great earthquake of January, 2010. They lost the building they were housed in and lived under the stars in the backyard garden for many months until they were able to construct two tents. These two tents house living quarters for the men and women. In these tents Fr. Charles also runs a seminary for young men studying for the priesthood. The women under Mother Margarette Andre are postulant nuns preparing for a religious life. The men and women are all Franciscans, which means they take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Together they operate a free school for local children in Petion-ville, and a second free school in a nearby mountain community. They put great emphasis on science and technology to prepare their students for jobs in today’s world. Fr. Charles has also recently taken in five young persons of varying ages, giving them food and a place to live. Some of them are studying at a local college, but none of them are able to contribute to their support. Fr. Charles’ Parish Community is mostly poor, and I have been the only outside source of funds. During the past three years they have constructed the basement of a replacement building, but construction has stopped for lack of funds. Haitians are hard workers and never say die. I hope you will support this effort to end the chronic poverty of Haiti and bring it into the modern world.
