FM Hilary Linton is a Toronto lawyer whose practice is restricted to providing mediation, arbitration, teaching and consulting services. She litigated family and civil disputes for 14 years and then obtained an LL.M. in ADR at Osgoode Hall Law School. She used that experience to launch her ADR business, Riverdale Mediation, which specializes in family mediation and arbitration, teaching mediation and negotiation theory and skills, and private training and consulting for corporations, government and individuals. Her teaching experience includes three January Term Professorships at the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law, including as the recipient of the inaugural James G. McLeod Professorship in Family Law; adjunct professorships at Osgoode Hall Law School for three years (teaching Lawyer as Negotiator); teaching Restorative Justice Theory and Practice on an on-going basis for Toronto Advanced Professional Education (“TAPE”, affiliated with St. Michael’s College in Toronto); and teaching Family Mediation and Negotiation for several years for TAPE; and teaching family law at Humber College. She teaches numerous courses at Riverdale Mediation, including Screening for Power Imbalances, including Domestic Violence, in Family Law Cases; Basic Family Law; Basic and Advanced Family Mediation and Negotiation; and Basic Family Arbitration. She was a judge for the final round of the inaugural Canadian National Mediation Advocacy Competition in Toronto. Hilary is past-chair of the ADR section of the Ontario Bar Association and a past-director of the Ontario Association of Family Mediation. She writes and speaks extensively on issues of mediation, arbitration, power and domestic violence, restorative justice and dispute resolution processes. Hilary: “I’m impressed.
