THOUGHT FOR TODAY. Doth not wisdom cry? And understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. Proverbs 8, 1-2. ***************************************************** The signpost Anyone out hiking who comes to a crossroads and doesnt know which turning to take is pleased to see a signpost there. But supposing the signpost is unreliable? It might point in the wrong direction or not have the path sought clearly marked on it. During our earthly life the consequences of any detour usually do not do much damage. If it concerns the path to our eternal destination, however, a wrong turning might lead to destruction, if we do not notice that we are on the wrong road and turn back early enough. How many signposts have been put up by men! Founders of religions, philosophers, beneficiaries - in fact, any who offer to lead people all call out, Come this way! But like proper signposts, they cannot walk themselves. So people are left to themselves after all! There is one who is not only a signpost for all who believe in Him, but had also gone on ahead on the path to the destination of heaven. He is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption (1Corinthians 1, 30). He is divine wisdom in the Person for all who are searching for the right path. Through the gospel He is calling for all to follow on that path. And for all who have come to Him, He is the author and finisher of the faith (Hebrews 12, 2). He leads the way for them. He does not let them toil on alone.
