THOUGHT FOR TODAY... It is a symptom of false faith, James - TopicsExpress

THOUGHT FOR TODAY... It is a symptom of false faith, James explained, when we continually seek whatever it is we want as the final outcome of our prayers and faith. We want our faith, in other words, to result ultimately in our own satisfaction and wellbeing. Oh we may tip our hats to the notion of God getting glory, but if what we really and ultimately seek through our faith and prayers is the satisfaction of some personal desire, then our faith is false. Jesus may have truly desired to escape the shame and pain of the cross; but His ultimate objective was that God’s will should be done and God be glorified, whether or not His own expressed longings should be fulfilled. Our expression of faith takes the form of false faith when it can be satisfied with little outcomes. Those outcomes may be entirely good and decent, but if we regard them as ends to be achieved rather than means to the larger end of knowing God in His glory and glorifying Him before the watching world, those outcomes are symptoms of false faith, and we ask wrongly when we seek them in prayer.
