THREE DUMB MOTHS Poetry at 3 am Three dumb moths swarm around the flickering light Watch me with soreness in their eyes. “Shoo! Shoo! Don’t fall for the light”, I shout muffled from below.. They don’t hear me; they are just another innocent team of moths, That fall in love with my room’s bulb every night. They budge round and round, like a kitten chasing its tail.. They enjoy the warmth; but just for a while And then they comprehend that their movements are no longer cheerful. They falter, they collide but yet they stir round and round and thud! They fall And lie next to my couch, the three of them. Dead and numb as a welldigger’s leg. “I told ya. Don’t fall for the light”, I whispered. I smiled. Lines written at 3:30 am Here I lie in my divan staring at them in wonder There is so much of mystification that surrounds their life too Like craving not to fall in love, yet unable to resist The enticement that the incandescent light offers them. Oh! Life what more has ye left to offer? Had ye not had enough to display? What a kingly joke it is for us humans To see even those infinitesimal creatures, Whose life span is near to just a dot compared to ours. Unable to defy the temptation life has to offer…. I guess I should blink now... (c)- BBP, 01/11/14
