THREE SECONDARY SCHOOLS PRINCIPALS DEMOTED UNCEREMONIOUSLY IN ELGEYO MARAKWET COUNTY AND 11 DEPUTIES ARE PROMOTED IN TRANSFERS ;- Three secondary school heads have been demoted and posted elsewhere. The transfers affect 15 schools in the county. St Michael’s Embobut Secondary, which hit the headlines barely a month ago when its students stormed out of the school after kitchen staff refused to cook was, among those affected. The cooks boycotted duties, accusing the teachers of absenteeism. Mr Thomas Chemelil, the principal, was transferred to St Peter’s Marakwet Boys’ Secondary to take up teaching duties. His replacement is Mr Isaac Kiboi Mwanja, who had been Chebara High School deputy principal. Kerio Valley Boys principal Felix Wamboka was also demoted and sent to Sing’ore Girls’ High School. He has been replaced by Mr Peter Opere Onyango, who served as the deputy headteacher at Chebiemit Boys’ Secondary. Mr Vincent Kaitany of Koitilial Secondary was transferred to Kipsoen Boys Secondary after his demotion. His replacement is Mr Patrick Sitati, who has been deputy headteacher of Kaptum Secondary School. Teachers Service Commission county director William Molla announced the transfers at a press briefing in his office at Iten Town. He also announced the elevation to principal and transfer of 11 deputy heads following last term’s interviews. Mr Molla said it was the commission’s obligation to carry out staffing changes whenever necessary. He warned school boards of management and community members from politicising any changes as politics was unnecessary in learning institutions as it affected academic performance. Other schools affected by the transfer of deputy headteachers include St Patrick’s Iten and St Francis Kimuron.
