THREE WORDS TO BAN IN DIALOGUES CONCERNING HEALTH, PSYCHOLOGY, - TopicsExpress

THREE WORDS TO BAN IN DIALOGUES CONCERNING HEALTH, PSYCHOLOGY, HEALING, BUSINESS, AND NEUROSCIENCE: Energy, vibrations, and quantum. These 3 words are continually bantered around, but they have no meaning outside of their specific definitions in physics and the hard sciences. When applied to the mind or our body, it becomes pseudoscience, which is why the American Psychological Association rejects the category called Energy Psychology. Who uses these terms? Mostly people who are trying to sell you something that doesnt really work, or for which there is no evidence to support it. They arent even terms that exist in traditional religions! How did they end up in our pop-culture? Through a bunch of optimistic but misguided people (I was one of them!) in the 70s and 80s who tried to marry Eastern philosophy with Western psychology. It failed, and the result is that millions of naive people are continuing to buy services and products that are waste of money. Magical thinking messes with the functioning of many parts of your brain, and the most dangerous book to be published this last decade was The Secret. When there is little evidence to support a claim, the product should be banned until proven to beat the placebo effect (which currently runs from 30% for emotional problems to 90% for the alleviation of pain.) WHAT WORDS WOULD YOU ADD TO THIS LIST OF PSEUDOSCIENCE? Example: any form of improved water.
