THROWBACK THURSDAY: PLAYSTATION MEMORY CARD - PS1 Its time to focus on one of the greatest and coolest things that ever appeared on Sonys world beating console. The #PS1 memory card blew gaming wide open by allowing gamers to take important data from their console around a friends house to either help them out on their game or to take saved stats/data to allow for fair multi-player gaming. Up until this point game data had been stored either in the games console itself or on cartridge but by keeping on a separate device it meant that so many more options to experience play suddenly became available. These 1 MEG cards could in theory allow upto 15 different game title saves to be transferred between users. If you and a friend had Tekken but he/she could not unlock the secret characters but you had then take a memory card with the file around to theirs load up the game using YOUR memory card then take out and swap for your friends card and in an instant they now had all the fighters as well. AWESOME!!! Konami also used the memory card to see what other games from them you had played and superbly made a psychic boss look even more sinister when he scanned your memory to see if you had played Castlevania... This blew people away in its time but all it was made up of was the console reading hte memory card and answering a simple yes/no question then displaying text on a screen. Simple but the impact was world shattering for the time. So on this Throwback Thursday lets raise a glass to another amazing Sony Playstation aspect, sure they didnt invent the memory card but the PS1 used it better than any other machine ever! #20yearsofplay Enjoy!!!
