THROWBACK: Well it goes without saying that along with playing with Miles after my time with Elvin, this was THE major musical event of my life. The thrill of actually playing with the same guy who I saw many times with the Coltrane Group was amazing … and to be with pals Gene and Steve just reinforced the experience. In fact, Steve and I did a little rotating thing with Miles and Elvin during those years. If I remember correctly this little riff might’ve been written by Elvins wife, Keiko Jones, who did contribute some tunes to the repertoire. This is an all out “burn” time, no changes format, riff-oriented mid-60s Trane inspired piece.
