THROWING YOUR BRIEF FOR MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM IN A BID TO GET OPINIONS/ADVISES/TIPS/WHATEVER...ETHICAL ISSUES INVOLVED. As lawyers using this social media as platform to communicate about legal matters vis-à-vis legal profession we should step back and make sure we understand the impact that it has on our professional relationships and our duties to our clients. I think it is in our interest as lawyers to uphold the etiquette of our profession. I observe that some lawyers are dangerously forming the habit of posting private and confidential information about a client and their case online in this forum there by soliciting for advises on how to conduct the case or matter. This is a clear violation of duty of confidentiality. I am not saying that one cannot consult a senior member of the bar on a given problem, but we shouldnt make it public. Thats my problem with these type of lawyers. I know some of us may not find what I am saying very palatable but I have to say it anyway. If you have a matter involving a recondite area of law and you lack skills and experience of how to go about it kindly ask any senior member of the bar in your jurisdiction....meet him in his chambers, I am sure many will be glad to assist you. But you should not post details of your brief online in an attempt to find someone to help you with tips on how best solve or address your problem. Attorney–client privilege is a legal concept that protects certain communications between a client and his or her attorney and keeps those communications confidential. See Rule 19 of the RPC 2007 Imagine yourself as a client how would you feel when you come across details of your brief being posted on the internet by your lawyer and worst still asking for solution to the problem after paying exorbitant fees to the lawyer??
