THURSDAY, 1/22/15 LETTERS. 1 Corinthians 1:5-9 “Encouraging Reminders” (By Barry) WORSHIP: We shared this song some time ago, but I think it is worth hearing again! https://youtube/watch?v=fNKsVDOC758 SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=1Co&c=1&t=NLT#s=1063005 Before we start, let me remind you about this letter we are reading. Paul wrote several letters to the church in Corinth. (This was probably not the first). The church in Corinth was an exciting, vibrant church. They had lots of gifts-and lots of problems. As you read our verses, please understand that Paul’s words apply to the church he wrote to nearly 2,000 years ago, BUT they apply to you and and me in many ways, too. Ready? 5 Through him, God has enriched your church in every way—with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge. 6 This confirms that what I told you about Christ is true. 7 Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. 9 God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS: —1. What would you say the general theme of Paul’s words today? How would you sum it up in a few words? —2. Here’s my summary: “God has given you and your church EVERY single thing you need to prosper, and to do battle with the darkness. God has promised you He will keep you strong (and He does not have the ability to break a promise!), so LET’S GET BUSY! —3. Why are spiritual gifts important? Can you think of some examples? —4. Did you catch verse 9? You and I have been given a great invitation! What is it? Have you accepted this invitation? How might your life be different if you remembered this invitation each day? —5. Do you ever feel weak? Of course you do! What situations make you feel especially weak? Why? What does verse 8 have to say about that? PRAYER:
