THURSDAY December 4, 2014 Daily Devotion by Raul Ries Serve Man or God Then he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servantsof Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.” 1 Samuel 17:8 Notice what Goliath called the children of Israel, the servants of Saul. He did not call them the servants of God. Why? They were not living for God! They were no longer the servants of the Lord; no, they were the servants of Saul. Goliath knew who he was fighting and it was not the living God. The enemy recognizes who you are serving. Satan knows. He has been around for a long time. Remember, he was thrown out of heaven by the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He knows man. He went on to say, “Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.” Goliath knew they were not trusting in the Lord. They were looking around at each other, wondering who would fight against Goliath. As Saul looked around everybody was afraid; no one volunteered to fight for Israel—to fight for the Lord. We see the same thing today. The church is afraid of so many things and so many people. What does God say in His Word? Unbelief is a sin; not trusting in the Lord is unbelief. You do not believe He can do all things. God does not call us to fear but to trust in Him in all things, knowing nothing is too great or too big for Him. Do you serve a man or do you serve the Living God? If you stood alone, it would be presumptuous to hope. Because you are not alone, it is offence to tremble. ~Henry Law~
