THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2014 DEVOTION THEME: THE VAIN CURIOUSITY KEY TEXT: John 12:9 (Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead) - KJV. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Jesus, after raising Lazarus from death, came back to Bethany and this miracle attracted a huge crowd of the Jews to catch a glimpse of Lazarus, but not to have a beneficial encounter with Jesus. Curiousity means desiring to know more about somebody or something. Beloved, most people who are following Jesus have vain curiosity in the sense that they do not aim at gaining eternal life; which is most important or receiving any significant ministration from Jesus. They are just following the crowd that is following Jesus. Most people just want to witness the deliverance and healing miracles, get a spouse, a job, display their wealth or new clothes, get a befitting and solemn burial for themselves when they die or for their cronies, make money etc that is why they go to church, pray, fast or live as Christians but not because they want to have eternity life or salvation. The Lord says any of these excuses for following Jesus is a vain curiousity. Martha and Mary received Jesus as their guest and whilst Martha was busy preparing meals to fete Jesus, Mary sat at Jesus feet and listened to His preaching and when there was a controversy or feud between the two sisters, Mary was adjudged the best host for Jesus, because Jesus did not come onto the earth for food but for the word of God, for man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God (Deut. 8:3; Matt. & Luke 4:4). Do not seek Jesus for food, clothes, job etc. Also, in Mark 10:46-52, a thick and noisy crowd was following Jesus in Jericho and a blind man called Bartimaeus, upon hearing that it was Jesus who was passing, defied the noise and attempts by some members of the crowd to stop him from calling Jesus and succeeded in drawing Jesus attention to him and so received his sight at the expense of those who had sight and were following Jesus. Defy every hindrance and ignore every irrelevant detraction so that you receive your miracle or breakthrough from Jesus. Focus on Jesus but not on His miracles and wonders; zero in on your salvation but not on temporary gains from Jesus. May the Lord help you to seek Jesus always for the most important needs in Jesus name! GOOD MORNING!!! Signed: (Evans Dede) Founder & Overseer, Revival Gospel Mission (REGEMIN).
