THURSDAY OCT 31... The Jolene Theory promoting their album at The Bottlerocket cafe in Nowra from 7:30-9:30pm... On paper, it’s a hard sell: a metal/hard rock drummer teaming up with a subdued, acoustic singer/songwriter. Granted, it’s no ordinary alliance, but newcomers The Jolene Theory are a textbook definition of all that is out of the ordinary. Recorded over three days with prominent Australian producer Darren “Jenk” Jenkins (28 Days, Mortal Sin, Shinobi), The Jolene Theory’s debut album, The Standing Room Diaries, captures the band’s ability to mine the common ground between the polarisingly diverse musical backgrounds of its two members. In drawing upon acoustic rock, power pop, reggae, folk blues and garage to create The Standing Room Diaries, The Jolene Theory have re-imagined the party rock anthems of Van Halen in the hands of Johnny Cash, the stadium-filling white reggae of The Police via The Who and the mid-sixties pop of The Beatles filtered through the combined swagger of Keith Richards and You Am I to craft a self-styled sonic and visual experience that has been turning heads on the South Coast scene since their formation in 2011.
