THURSDAY RANTS & RAVES: I went to my sons Parent Teacher - TopicsExpress

THURSDAY RANTS & RAVES: I went to my sons Parent Teacher Conference at John Glenn high school in Westland, MI yesterday and had a hard time finding a parking space. Once inside, I had to sign an attendance list and wait in line to meet with each of his teachers. This not a complaint, its a great thing. It means there are communities where parents are taking an active role in their kids education and how it will impact their future. Great work Rocket parents and John Glenn staff! Now from the sublime to the ridiculous. Did anyone see the story on Fox 2 about the 15 year old girl (allegedly) being held hostage in the home of her 18 year old boyfriend? Even worse, the 18 year olds mother reportedly sanctioned this stupidity refusing to send the child outside to her waiting father. Who does this? That momma and 18 year old son are lucky that wasnt Brenda & I coming to their house cause there would be no house to speak of if they had my baby up in there on some foolish ish... IJS. Unless you were a cousin, my parents didnt allow overnight stays. And even then, they had to know the parents had given permission, submit a notarized letter, and have two U.S. congressmen give their OK. Surely I jest but you get the idea. I use to think my parents were strict but in hindsight, they had a proper balance on child rearing and my sister and I are the beneficiaries of their upbringing. Lastly, the three suspects rounded up in the car jacking/theft at Eastern Market earlier this week in which a Detroit Police Officer was injured were all under the age of 17. Parents...we gotta do better. Someone could have been killed. Dont know about you, but Im tired of seeing parents crying and blowing snot bubbles on TV talking about what a good boy theyre lil Bo Bo was when everybody on the block knew lil Bo Bo has broken into half the homes on the block. Whos runnin the house...you or your kids. Im out, peace!
