TIM LUCK LUCK: GOOD STARTERS, POOR SERVICE AND POOR - TopicsExpress

TIM LUCK LUCK: GOOD STARTERS, POOR SERVICE AND POOR INVENTORY Tim Luck Luck, the ‘happy dhaba’ as they position themselves is right opposite DSK Akashganga in Pimple Saudagar. Having heard a great deal about their decent Punjabi cuisine, interesting décor and an on-going monsoon offer, a bunch of us decided to check it out. Ambience, Parking and Seating: The parking is on an open ground just in front of the restaurant’s premises. The attentive watchman immediately came to assist, with an umbrella, to save us from the rain. As we walked in, I saw a flex board that read something along the lines of ‘When It Pours, You Get More. Buy 1 Get 1 Free on Select Starters and Beverages. Anytime it rains.’ Since I was pouring, I was thrilled that we were going to get that offer due to sheer luck. Tim Luck Luck is designed to give one a dhaba-like experience, in an urban setting. So, there are the usual tables and chairs, some cool jute coven cots (khatiya) and even a few lounging cabana-styled areas for larger groups. What we Ordered: We asked for the monsoon offer since the flex was put up and it was pouring. The table attendant said that though the flex was up, the offer would not begin till the next day. We argued but it was in vain. Moving on, we asked for Kingfisher, Miller High Life and Budweiser beers….all of which were not available. The only one available was Carlsberg. Not that I don’t like Carlsberg, but then what’s the point of having 10 beers on the menu card if just one is available? For starters we ordered a Bhatti Da Murgh (the description was totally vague…just said that it originated in in Amritsar 40 years ago. But what I figured was it pieces of chicken marinated in a blend of masalas, mustard powder, wrapped in aluminium foil and char grilled) and Til Mil Kumbh (mushroom stuffed with garlic cheese, masala and char grilled). The Bhatti Da Murgh was a tad oily but delicious. The Til Mil Kumbh was not bad either but the garlic flavor was missing, being strategically murdered by the cheese. Entertainment: To its credit, Tim Luck Luck plays some really soulful Bollywood music from the 1990s. Many may find it tacky. But one has to realise that the music is an extension of the dhaba experience. It was just perfect. The music selection was so good that the songs spoke of rain, while it was pouring outside. Coincidence? Service: Possibly the most depressing part of the evening. While we first sat at the lounging cabana-styled section, one of the staff members suddenly (without warning) started bombarding the entire place with mosquito repellant. With zero warning, we were caught unawares and started coughing away amidst an ocean of white smoke. We couldn’t even exit the area since the white smoke was dense enough to block vision for a good 7 minutes. Thereafter comes the refusal of the monsoon offer. The table attendant just told us that the SMS system, required to avail the offer was not active, so the offer was not active. Then, why the hell would you put up a flex stating the offer? Put it up only after the SMS system is activated. Simple. My Verdict: Tim Luck Luck is an okay-ish place for good starters and a hatke ambience. If you’re looking to avail the monsoon offer or if you’re dumb enough (sarcasm intended) to expect that everything on the menu card will be readily available, I’d say give it a miss. After our Tim Luck Luck experience, we moved to Copa Cabana near Jagtap Dairy, where we spent the rest of the evening eating and drinking away to glory.
