TIMARIV To Recruit Thugs As Adhoc Staff The declining fortunes of the Rivers State Transport Management Authority, TIMARIV leading to unpaid salaries and directive to the agency to explore ways and means of becoming self sustaining, have now put the mangers in a tight corner, and there are strong indications that they are considering the option of recruiting thugs as adhoc staff to give bite to their work. We gathered that this option is being considered in order to have, as a backup to their regular staff, those who can fight off harassments and return violence for violence from road users and the public whenever the need arises in the course of discharging their duties. We gathered that the ad hoc staff would be paid commission on a daily basis, a development many fear may likely spur the thugs to employ maximum force as occasion demands, to make as much money as possible for the agency and for themselves on a daily basis. When we called the Public Relations office of TIMARIV, on Tuesday for their reaction on the proposed employment of ad hoc staff, a female voice answered: “I don’t know. We are not employing.”
