TIME FOR CHANGE The time for change is now and you have the opportunity to make it happen. Please take a moment and ask yourself the following questions and vote accordingly. - Are all tribal members treated equally? No matter who they are or if they have lived in Grand Ronde their entire life. - Do our tribal members speak freely or are they afraid of repercussions? Is there a fear of loss of employment, housing or even worse MEMBERSHIP?. - When you apply for a job do you feel you are treated fairly? Or is there a certain group of people who have all the best jobs and make the big salaries? - Do you feel the tribe is heading in the right direction? Do you see a secure future? - What group of words best describe our current leadership? Fair, caring, righteous or control, power, intimidation? - Are all decisions made with the best interest of the membership in mind??? As many of you know for the past few years I have been asking the questions Why does the General Council not have power over major decisions that effect our Tribe? Why bother with an advisory vote when Tribal Council has already made a vote prior to hearing from the membership? The only answer I ever received was Tribal Council has the power. I recently returned from a trip to the Yakama Reservation. While there I met with many friends and family from both the Grand Ronde Tribe and the Yakama Nation. They shared some very interesting information regarding how things are done at the Yakama Nation. They said things like The supreme law of the land is the General Council and Matters of great importance is referred to the people for consideration. These words actually brought tears to my eyes. Giving the General Council power over major decisions is one of my campaign platforms and we can make this happen. We need change, we need to a Tribal Council that recognizes that the General Council is the LAW OF THE LAND. Our Tribes destiny is in your hands and we need your support, please vote Kathleen Tom and Ann (Bobb) Lewis.
