TIME FOR NEW LEADERSHIP AND SOME FRESH FACES IN THE LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL... LAUNCESTON CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS- THE VOTES ARE OUT By now you should have your votes and a lot of people ask me who should I vote for, I’m not going to tell you who to vote for but will highlight the things I believe are important after hearing 19 of the 25 candidates who showed up at the City Prom forum and reading the candidate statements. I look for candidates with vision and actions- not just people with fluffy statements. What have they done in terms of making things happen? If they are already an alderman, have they brought ‘motions to council’ to improve things in Launceston or are they someone who hasnt and do they take credit from others for their hard work? Do they vote for things and fight for what brings people into Launceston or do they just give them populist support- but don’t actually vote them in? Are they hands on? Do they get out and help people with a wide range of issues across the city or do they just deal with a narrow segment of the community? If not an alderman already- are they people who have achieved good things in the community? If they have a website check it out- don’t just look at Facebook pages full of slogans or photos of them but see what work they have done as outlined on their website. Are they someone who meets with constituents to discuss problems or do they avoid your call or block your attempts to get answers on matters? Plenty to consider- judge them on the things they have delivered to Launceston or concrete policies they have for Launceston moving forward.
