TIME PERMITTING, PLEASE READ. LOOKING FOR COMMENTS! On Wednesday, September, 17th Heidie Charles was admitted to Princess Alice Hospital Maribou, for what seemed to be the CHIKI virus, which has become an apparent epidemic in Grenada. She had severe GI symptoms; vomiting and diarrhea. She was unable to eat or drink anything. We were told that she was receiving drips. She continued to deteriorate, and on Friday, September 19th, she reported to her mother that blood was drawn. At that time she was told that to have the blood read, she must provide $250.00. She advised the staff that since she had not been able to find a job, she did not have the money on hand. Her mother advised that she would provide the $250.00 at the end of the month. On Saturday, September 20th, Heidies mother spoke with her and reiterated that the money would be paid at the end of the month. The mother also spoke with a nurse who reported that Heidie is coming on, and will be going home monday. On Sunday, September 21st, a call was received from Princess Alice hospital informing the family that Heidie was being transferred to St. Georges hospital. When family visited they were asked for $270.00 for blood work to be drawn. On Monday, September 22nd, $270.00 was brought to the hospital. The blood was drawn from Heidie, and her aunt was given the blood to take to the Carenage to be tested. The family has the receipt. The result supposedly is wjhat was needed in order to accurately treat the cause of Heidies illness. While she had been receiving drips, the lab results woud allow for identifying the cause. On Tuesday, September 23, the family received a call that their beloved Heidie, 33 years old was dead!
