TIME TO MAKE SOME MUSIC CASH! Here are a few tips that will help you this year and especially at the holiday season. But they are worthy of review with the change of the seasons in my book. Always look outside your box for the best options to present your music and talents. Make your Website YOUR Music Store This one’s big. The idea that people are just compelled to visit your website is fantasy. So partner with other artists you know to share links. If you play regularly at a venue, share links. Become creative to drive people to your website in your concerts. Then give your fans a way to hear and purchase your music from your website. Add a music player with some music segments or even allow the whole song, you have a choice. Newsletter, Personal contact by snail mail or email Face book, Instagram, Pinterest, Kik, YouTube or any other Social media is fine, but it’s no substitute for true personal contact. If you can afford and have the mailing list create a printed newsletter to carry and hand out at concert appearances. Better still an email newsletter delivered straight to the inboxes of your most loyal fans can do wonders for your attendance and sales. If you choose email, take time to learn how to create an email newsletter that will drive more engagement and boost sales this Holiday Season Everybody loves a SALE! Tell your fans that during the holidays you’ll be selling your downloads at a reduced rate. Single downloads or the complete download project for a reduced price. If using a service you, have the ability to change pricing when the sale is over. Internet sales: Make the offer interesting and worth it. People love discounts. So why not do a BoGo or a percentage off purchases and or free shipping. Be competitive. Personal Appearances: Apply the same strategic sales strategy to your product sales at concert venues. Do not be afraid to mention your product and specials. Remember, if you do not toot your horn, no one else will. Change out those tired old links This is the age of new and improved, better than ever, repackaging is key to keep fans coming back to your website. So maybe it’s time to renovate your website. Reach out to your design-oriented friends to help you make some holiday-themed images, get new links. Add new photos and be aggressive in getting people involved and wanting to come back to your website. Also, make sure that all of the links you’ve got out there on the Internet are still active. Inventory-Be Ready. Make sure you have enough stock of CDs and vinyl to meet demand. That means make sure your mail order inventory is current. Make sure you have plenty of stock for your personal appearances. If you have a limited supply, make sure your website shows limited supply. If you sell out, then update your website to SOLD OUT! Think ahead. Never assume you can make it work. Have a good relationship with your product manufacturer. Also be aware of last minute rush jobs and their charges. Be an innovator, offer gift cards. Think about it, the biggest gift given is a gift card. Fact they make great gifts. Cards or certificates are small, light, and you can customize with your album art. Plus, you can use them to promote your music well beyond the holidays. Gift Cards or certificates should be a staple on your website. Holiday Music is a quick sales boost Everyone loves the holidays. So why not capitalize on the opportunity. Choose a few Christmas classics to record. These projects can be quick turn-around cds and available for a short period of time, only a couple of years. The quickest sale is via download. So use your web page, Facebook, CD Baby, I-Tunes, Amazon and a host of other download sources. Make a quick purchase of 1000 or so cds so you can sell them and include them from October thru December concert purchases and mail orders. There are a number of Christmas songs you can record and not pay royalties. Inbox me for some information or research on line. Don’t forget about YouTube revenue Many artists never consider YouTube as a marketing and sales venue but it really can be. Make sure your entire music catalog is opted in to make money from YouTube. That is step one. Step two is have encourage your fans to post their videos of your music. You can make money and open new doors in an arena that has mostly been considered viewer friendly. Choose one day a week until Christmas for a free music download...Yes it is a tease. But people like free stuff. When you allow fans and prospective fans the opportunity to download a free song, it entices people to purchase the whole album. If they like what they hear, they’ll come back for more. Sugar anyone? Update your music descriptions Now your recorded music may be current or you may have some older projects. Doesn’t matter the age. What matters is how you present it. Take some time to listen to your projects again. Pull out old reviews, find a different way of presenting the music. Remember we are a generation of new and improved, timeless, classics, better than ever... you get my point.
