TIME TO TELL LEGISLATURE: OVERRIDE PREEMPTION Its all but - TopicsExpress

TIME TO TELL LEGISLATURE: OVERRIDE PREEMPTION Its all but official that Anti GMO Senator Russell Ruderman will be the new chair of the State Senate Agriculture Committee replacing the chemical industrys best friend Clarence Nishihara. That means that Ordinance 960 (Bill 2491) is especially alive and well now and just one step bill away from having the courts state preemption ruling being itself preempted by the legislature. It is not too early to lobby the legislature regarding home rule asking them to vote to allow stricter health and safety laws by counties and against state preemption. We need a clear state non-preemption bill/law out of the legislature- one that allows counties to pass stricter regulation of pesticides, GMOs and other agricultural hazards... a very simple bill in order to make it clear the counties may pass stricter laws that the states- something thats very common for state regulations and laws... except when corporate interests pay off legislators with campaign contributions. If we can make that happen we wont even have to wait for what we all know will be a successful appeal which could take a year or more. And it will make any supposed rationale for Mel Rapozo and Ross Kagawas self-proclaimed housekeeping repeal bill look like the nonsense it is.
