TIME TO TEST THE PROGRESSIVISM OF BOLA AHMED TINUBU Today, no doubt, Bola Tinubu is almost the most significant deer miner of happenings in APC. This reason therefore, confers on the leadership direction he afloats as the opposition leader in Federation. The discernible minds of patriots want to see if the leadership direction of the former Governor of Lagos state will demonstrate a genuine democrat who is progressive or a deceptive progressive democrat. I must confess that I am particularly interested in whether hell prove to the whole world that hes a genuine democrat who can be trusted with the affairs of this country. This is in the considerations of the progressive roles he played during the Abacha regime in which General Muhammad Buhari was an active participant. But for the roles he, Tinubu, and his fellow compatriots played during the Abacha regime, Nigeria would have disintegrated by now. The Buhari who is now desperate albeit his stooping to conquer tactics, would have had no a Nigeria to clamour to govern. Then, Buhari saw nothing wrong in serving in a government that was leading the country to abyss! He, was comfortable that its was a Northerner that was in charge in contempt of the cris and agony the entire nation was going through under the jackboot of a tyrant northern soldier. But Tinubu and others were on the side of the masses and the peaceful coexistence of the country. They teamed up against a cabal group which had Buhari as chief promoter. That is to say while Tinubu was defending the peace and unity of the country GMB was doing otherwise. These different roles they played during the most turbulent and critical stage in the affairs of our beloved country make the two of them politically opposite and hence they are seen as being politically incompatible. Its that every leader must have stable character and ideology. If a man is against his nation when the nation needs him most, if a man is ready to betray the larger interest of his nation because he benefits from the status quo and if a man is fit to mortgage the future of his nation like Buhari did in between 1993-1998, such a man should no longer be trusted with the affairs of the nation. But my fear too, is that Tinubu too, is a power monger who may be ready to jettison the virtue in him to acquire power. The current arrangement is in contrast with what promoted Tinubu to the stage of being regarded as a progressive democrat. Buhari has never pretended as a man who has no tolerance for due process and democratic norms and values. But we have always accorded Tinubu the honour of being a democrat hence he was preferred to be the Governor of Lagos state in 1999 even when Engr. Fun so William defeated him at the primary election. Buhari is from the conservative divides who cannot share the political aspirations of every genuine democrat. How they plan to work together without they entrapping the future of Nigeria should be of interest to all of us before we ignorantly vote for a party that is prone to be wrecked by leadership cris soon.
