TIP FOR EVERYONE: It is often helpful to identify whether your negative or unhelpful thoughts fall into the categories of one or more "thinking traps." A thinking trap is an exaggerated or biased pattern of thinking that perpetuates negative mood states like depression, anxiety, and anger. Do you focus in on one negative detail at the expense of neutral or positive details? This is called the MENTAL FILTER. Do you easily dismiss positive events in your life when they occur? This is called DISQUALIFYING THE POSITIVE. Stay tuned tomorrow for a description of additional thinking traps that may get you into trouble.
