TIP OF THE DAY : FUEL USE DURING EXERCISE - Carbohydrates : Serves as the major food fuel for the metabolic production of (A.T.P - Adenosine triphosphate), which is the chemical compound required for all cellular work. Importantly, carbohydrates is the only macro-nutrient whose stored energy generates ATP anaerobically. Carbohydrates is stored as glycogen in both muscle and the liver. Blood glucose levels are regulated primarily through the glycogen stored in the liver, such that when blood glucose level are low, glycogen from the liver is broken down to glucose through a process call GLYCOGENOLYSIS and is released into the bloodstream . Once released into the bloodstream, Once released into the blood, this glucose can be carried to the contracting muscle and used as fuel!
