TITHING Tithe is a biblical term that pertains to the Old - TopicsExpress

TITHING Tithe is a biblical term that pertains to the Old Testament. The word literally means tenth. The question is, a tenth of what? Under the Old Covenant, all of the Jewish tribes were bound by law to give one tenth of their crops, cattle and earnings to support The Priesthood. The only ones exempt from this law was the tribe of Levi. Why? These Levites had been set aside by God to care for all things pertaining to worship. They were forbidden to perform any other tasks that werent connected with the perpetuation of the worship of Gods people. It was a 24/7 job. It was for this reason the Levitical Priesthood depended on the tithe for its existence. Is the law of the tithe binding on Christians today? The answer is NO. The Old Covenant (with all of its laws and regulations) was nailed to the cross and taken away, in order to usher in a new law, the Law Of Christ. Under this New Covenant, Christians are now The Priesthood, with Christ being the High Priest. Because of this, the tithe has been replaced with free will giving. Giving not out of necessity because of a law, but as one has prospered and has purposed from the heart!
