TIXALL GATEHOUSE - The BEGGAR QUEEN JULY 1586: KJ6 allies with QE1, the following month, AUGUST 1586: QE1 orders MQS seized at Chartley, taken to Tixall & then tried at Fotheringay King James VI aged 20 years signs a CONTRACT with Queen Elizabeth/ QE1, QE1 agrees she will grant him an annual pension and name him her successor if King James will abandon his mother Marie Queen of Scots/ MQS. QE1 then orders the arrest of the imprisoned Scottish Queen at Chartley, transfers her to Tixall. Gathers MQS documents and steals whatever money MQS had remaining. QE1 never named King James her successor. She dies in 1603 having never named anyone successor to the barren Queen. After KJ6 signed the contract QE1 also changed the terms and decreased the monetary amount of the pension. Guided by his greed of the English Crown, and lured by a secret promise of the succession, James abandoned his mother, became the sworn pensioner of her enemy and in July 1586 formed an alliance defensive and offensive with Elizabeth, pledging to maintain the religion now professed in both countries against all adversaries... Source: Leith Narrative of Scottish Catholics p.211 August 1586 QE1 and Paulet planned a false outdoor horseback ride for prisoner Marie Queen of Scots, instead she was seized and taken to TIXALL. As MQS left Tixalls Gatehouse for Fotherigay trial and execution she was met by the poor of England who were accustomed to her frequent ALMS giving, a custom also held previously by Queen Catherine of Aragon. But all of MQS remaining dowry money had been stolen on orders of QE1. Contrary to movies like Elizabeth the stolen er Golden Age England continued to become increasingly poverty stricken due to the monopoly policies of QE1, her detriment to foreign trade by her high seas piracy and her incessant Wars. Though QE1 had more than 2,000 jewel encrusted gowns at her death, England was BANKRUPT at the end of her reign. MQS was witnessed to say to the begging English poor at the Tixall gatehouse: I have nothing for you, I am a beggar as well as you, all is taken from me.
