TMC fails to find a lawyer to take on CBI in Saradha case Advocate Sibal Denies Reports Of His Accepting Job Trinamool’s search for a lawyer to take up its “CBI political vendetta” case in Supreme Court has drawn a blank. Legal eagles in Delhi, particularly those with political affiliations, are in no mood to create controversy by taking up Trinamool national secretary Mukul Roy’s cause when his name, too, has been dragged into the Ponzi muddle. The reason for their reluctance is more legal than political. Lawyers feel it’s not a good time to move SC when CBI’s investigation into the Saradha scam is still on. While Trinamool circles were buzzing with speculation that a senior party MP had contacted former Union minister and ace lawyer Kapil Sibal to move SC, Sibal on Friday set the rumour to rest. “There has been nothing of this sort. What will I speak on it?“ Sibal told TOI. Last Sunday , Trinamool spokesperson Derek OBrien had said: “The use of CBI against us in the Saradha scam is a classic case of how the institution is used for political vendetta. We will fight this politically, legally and in every way possible in a parliamentary democracy .“ It triggered speculation that Trinamool would move the apex court. It hasnt. According to sources, there is no immediate plan of moving SC. “Investigations are not complete. This gives CBI -or investigative agencies -a wide berth now. Any plea against a yet-to-be-completed probe may be counterproductive,“ sources said. Trinamool instead plans to seek bail for Madan. “The petition will be moved in sessions court first. There is no plan of moving even high court. Given the case load there, it will take at least three weeks for it to be heard. If the sessions curt plea fails, we will move HC,“ a Trinamool source said. Supreme Courts May 9 order clearly said the state shall “provide the fullest cooperation to CBI...“.
