TMC youth president slams ‘betrayer’ BJP Siliguri, 19 November: Lashing out at the BJP, the All India Trinamul Yuva President, Abhishek Banerjee, today said that if Sudipto Sen could be sent to jail for betraying people, BJP leaders should also be sent behind bars for ‘betraying’ people in terms of not fulfilling commitments they made while seeking votes. “Sudipto Sen should languish in jail for the whole life for taking money from the people and betraying them. If he can be sent to jail, I demand that the BJP leaders should also be sent to jail for betraying people,” Mr Banerjee told a public meeting of the Darjeeling district Trinamul Congress here. Taking a dig at the BJP national secretary and West Bengal party observer, Siddharth Nath Singh, Mr Banerjee said former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri would have given marriage a second thought had be known about his grandson. “Siddharth Nath Singh is the grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. He would have thought about marrying if he knew his grandson would engage in such activities,” he said. Mr Banerjee also slammed the media and said that the Press had “no character.” “The way the media has been working of late, it seems that the BJP has bought them,” he said, without elaborating. The Diamond Harbour MP also said some BJP leaders had amassed property after becoming ministers. Without naming the union minister of state for urban development, housing and urban poverty alleviation, Babul Supriyo, the Trinamul’s national spokesperson, Derek O’ Brien, said the BJP had taken a ‘baby’ MP in the Cabinet. “The NDA has included a baby MP in the ministry, by ignoring Darjeeling MP (and senior leader) SS Ahluwalia,” he said.
