TMG Holds 2014 Biennial General Meeting, Re-Elects Zikirullahi Ibrahim, Others At the Biennial General Meeting (BGM) of the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) which held in Abuja yesterday, Monday August 25, 2014 members of the coalition unanimously re-elected the incumbent Chairman, Comrade Zikirullahi M. Ibrahim and other members of the Coordinating Committee (the Board) for another term of two years. After the dissolution of the 2012-2014 Coordinating Committee, an Electoral Committee chaired by High Chief, James Nengi from Bayelsa State was set up, and the call was made for interested candidates to indicate their interests in any of the Coordinating Committee positions. In the absence of such interests a voice vote was called asking if members wanted the previous Coordinating Committee members to be re-elected. The affirmative voice vote was unanimous after no one indicated willingness to contest the positions of members who served on the 2012-2014 Coordinating Committee. The BGM declared the all members of the committee stand re-elected for another term of two years, which takes effect from August 2014 till August 2016. The Coordinating Committee members re-elected by the BGM are; Zikirullahi Mualeem Ibrahim, Chairman, Mrs. Goroso –Giwa Limota, Vice Chair, Chief Edwin Okey Ezuruike, North East, Elder Jacob Aaron, National Treasurer, Dr. Osita Nnamani Ogbu, South East Zonal Coordinator, Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim, North East Zonal Coordinator, , Olubisi Yomi-Layinka, South West Zonal Coordinator, Rommy Mom North Central Zonal Coordinator, TMG, Ibrahim Shuni Abdullahi, Kyauta Agmadalo Giwa, Adejor Abel, and Mrs. Chinwe Onyeukwu. However, two fresh members were also elected to fill two vacant positions in the Coordinating Committee. They are; Saviour Akpan who was nominated and elected unopposed to fill the vacant thematic area of the environment, and Musa Adamu Abubakar who was nominated and elected unopposed to fill the vacant thematic area of civic education. With speaker after speaker commending the work of the Zikirullahi Ibrahim led Coordinating Committee of 2012-2014, and calling the executive to be re-elected, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, High Chief James Nengi put the question to a voice vote. There was a resounding ‘yes’ vote for the Zikirullahi led leadership of the TMG to returned elected. The Electoral Committee thereafter announced them elected, just as the two vacant positions on the Coordinating Committee were subsequently filled. The oath of office was subsequently administered on them. In his acceptance speech, the re-elected Chairman, Comrade Zikirullahi M. Ibrahim thanked member organizations of TMG for the confidence reposed in him. He said his re-election was both an honour and a huge responsibility because it meant the members of the Coordinating Committee had more work to do. He vowed to double the efforts of the Coordinating Committee towards recording greater achievements, and making the TMG a force to be reckoned with in election observation and civic education within and outside the shores of Nigeria. Specifically, Comrade Zik, as he is fondly called in the human rights and pro-democracy community promised that by the end of the current tenure in 2016, TMG will have its permanent site, while its place as Nigeria’s foremost election observation group would be cemented through sound policies and projects.
