TNL President election deferred Day 1 of TAKL 48 hrs bandh ends peacefully The first day of the 48-hour Tangkhul area bandh called by the Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union) has passed off peacefully without any untoward incident. Normal life was partially affected by the bandh at Ukhrul district headquarters today. TAKL has been imposing the bandh to condemn the killing of K Jonathan, a presidential candidate of the TNL and extend solidarity to the bereaved family members. The TAKL representatives today apprised the Tangkhul Frontal Organisation over the matter during a short meeting while also urging to bring an amicable solution to the issue. Regarding the ongoing bandh, the TAKL told the TFO that it would consult the Southern Tangkhul leaders/ tribunal for their collective wisdom, until which it can do nothing. The TAKL sought the cooperation of all the three zonal student unions’ presidents to extend their cooperation. Meanwhile, the TNL Election Commission has inde- finitely postponed the TNL election slated for Sept 25. The election commission cited the passing away of the wife of a candidate and appealed for postponement of the election from one constituent zone of the TNL as the reasons for postponement of the poll.
