TNN Local Economic News - Employment growth in Taft 12/27/2014 Todd D. Lederer - Editor Fourth quarter jobs growth in Taft has been good. While some additional employee hires during the Oct-Dec period are attributed to annual seasonal growth, the opening of several new businesses in town have added more permanent positions. Dennis Schertz, who operates the newly opened, The Bank - Sports Lounge at 431 Center St. Reportedly filled 12 new positions in November and December. Taco Bell, which opened just today, was to hire approximately 20-25 people according to Rick Jhaj, one of the owners. Satellite Solutions and several other owner operated businesses opened their doors up during the quarter and those owners count as new positions filled as well. On the down side, EDD reported a drop of 100 Energy related positions in the month of October and several industry workers have reported additional cut backs in oil field jobs durning the last couple of weeks. Its still early to put a hard number on those cutbacks and several employment analysts are speculating that if the price of oil stabilizes or increases, those cutbacks will be short lived.
