As the tenure of its chairman Syed Ali Geelani is expired onSaturday, the Tehreek-e-Hurri yatJammu and Kashmiris conducting the election for its new chairman and Majlis-e- Shoura(advisory council) on September 1, Sunday. “After his election the new chairman will deliver a specialaddress in which he will throw light on the policy of organization, its services and achievements vis-à-vis on going freedom struggle and prevailing situation in Jammu Kashmir,” said a spokesman the Tehreek in a statement today, appealing tothe media persons to visit Hyderpora to cover the event. “Tehreek-e-Hurriyat came into existence in 2004 following a written agreementwith the Majlis-e-Shouraof Jama’at-e- Islami Jammu Kashmir. Its fourth yearly Miqati Ijtima is held on Sunday in which the election of its new chairman and Majlis Shoura will be conducted.The election is held on Islamic fundamental principles, different from other ways of holding elections. It is not based on dynasty or personality rule. The election is held in a fair way through secret ballot.” •
