Understand and Develop Skills to Detect Equine Lameness Wednesday, February 26, 2014 7pm Victoria Maxwell, DVM We will review the various stages of the horses stride such as the swing phase and the stance phase and the different stresses of each phase on various structures. Then we will review the static (still) and dynamic (moving) portions of the lameness examination and the information gathering investigation that helps to correctly diagnosis lameness. Finally, we will review the FDA approved therapeutic remedies and the mechanism of action. This is designed for the horse owner and offers some strong fundamentals in developing a better eye to asses lameness in various disciplines. Crisman, DVM, DACVIM Dr. Crisman will touch on some of the most common emergencies that plague our equine companions. He will provide insight on how to keep calm and provide triage until the vet can reach you and your horse. No Sugar Added: The Scoop on Metabolic Diseases Wednesday, March 19, 2014 7pm Robert M. Stenbom, DVM This talk will touch on the trifecta of metabolic diseases: Insulin Resistance, Cushings Disease and Equine Metabolic Syndrome. We will discuss when and how these diseases surface, diagnostics, treatment and management. Dr. Stenbom will share insight on the latest research and new developments in this ever changing field. The Grass is Greener: When & How to Renovate Your Pastures. Poisonous Plants Wednesday, March 26, 2014 7pm Jason Harris, Kent Nutrition Group Kristina Gran, DVM, DACVIM This two part lecture will first discuss pasture maintenance including the difference in grass seeds that are most common to our region. We will then have a brief review of poisonous plants that are critical to identify in any horses surroundings and how to best protect your 4 legged friend.
