TO ALL THOSE DEFENDING THE RACIST REDSKINS NAME...Is the history and factual knowledge of Native Americans so obscure to the average Guardian reader that we must suffer the seemingly endless comment threads that are filled with, apologists at best, and outright racists at worst? Your arguments are childish and ignorant. How many of you have ever bothered to actually read a book on the subject of indigenous history? How many have bothered to access a Native American media website to read the Native American point of view on this issue? Do you really have an informed opinion or are you just reacting to some implied slight against your own White race? The word Redskins is historically a racial slur and it is still in use today as such. It is the precise equivalent to Nigg*r. 400 years of this shit is enough, were sick of it. It has become culturally taboo to use racial slurs relative to every other racial demographic and this represents a welcome evolution within our human culture. The endless whataboutery and false analogies here on the Guardian are sadly revealing of a dominant White culture that simply cannot come to grips with their own history. The Redskins issue only serves to shine a light on anti-indigenous racism so it is in all our collective interests to have this worst sort of slur go away forever. We would much rather never hear of it again and so would you.
