TO ALL WHO RECEIVE JESUS AS TEACHER-WHOSE WORD IS TRUE GOD’S COVENANT- OUR AUTHORITY IN HIM- “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” (Mark 11:23) Recall that just prior to our scripture today, Jesus had cursed the fig tree. Peter then inquired as to how this event had come to pass. Jesus then began teaching. Notice that He didn’t say,” I could do this because I am the Son of God with a special anointing.” He proceeded to tell us how any believer could do the same thing. Remember John 14:12? “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father.” This reality is very significant in the life of a believer who wants to walk in Kingdom power, but it is not the focus of my discussion today. I want to delve more into the lesson that Jesus is teaching us. The very next thing that He said is, “Have faith in God.” One translation says, “Take hold on God’s faithfulness….” Another says “Have the faith of God…” Again this is a vial reality in the life of a believer, but it is not what I want to focus on today. Let’s take a closer look at our scripture for today. Notice that the word “says” is used four times. From our English perspective, we would assume that the meaning is essentially the same for all four usages. Actually when we look at the Greek words used, we see that there are three different words with three distinct meanings. Let’s look at the verse with the Greek words and their definitions. I trust this will illuminate this verse and its dramatic truths for you as it did for me! MARK 11:23 (paraphrased) For verily I say [lego (Greek)-a systematic set discourse, building blocks] unto you, that whosoever shall say [epo (Greek)-command] unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith [laleo (Greek)-speak out[ shall come to pass [ a journey-on the way] ; he shall have whatsoever he saith [lego (Greek)-a systematic set discourse, building blocks]. What did Jesus teach about speaking to our mountain or a given situation? 1. He laid a foundation. 2. He said to command. 3. He said to speak out. 4. Having done so, we shall have the result of the foundation. In Mark 11:22, Jesus said that we are to have the faith of God. Then in verse 23, He said to command and speak out. Our saying has its power in the faith of God! As one man put it, “If your faith isn’t speaking, it isn’t working.” Meditate on the lesson that Jesus taught here. See how it applies to you and your life! We love you. Be blessed. May the God of light fill your hearts and lives with light and liberty! A Guiding factor is always: THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND!
