TO ANSWER QUESTIONS OF SATURDAY-SABBATH PEOPLE ABOUT THE 72 HOURS: how can a Sunday resurrection be considered 3 days, 3nights or 72 hours from a Friday crucifixion? 1st of all: When Jesus said he would spend “3 days and 3 nights’’ in the tomb, it is a figure of speech that just means 3 days. Saying “3 days..3nights’’ is the same as saying 3 days. Proof for that. Look at 1 samuel 30: 11-12---David’s men found a guy and they gave him food because he was very weak; they had to give him food to revive him because he did not eat for 3 days and 3 nights. In verse 13 he said he became ill three days ago. in verse 12 they found him ill and that’s why they gave him food and the verse say he did not eat 3 days and 3nights; in verse 13 he again explained that David’s men found him, he was ill and did not eat 3 days ago. So we see that the expression “3 days and 3 nights “ is the same as saying 3 days. Now does that have to be 3 FULL DAY (72 HOURS)? THE ANSWER : NOT NECESSARILY. Let’s see Luke 13:32-33 Jesus was speaking of His resurrection which would be the proof that He had accomplished salvation for us (that why He said His GOAL or PURPOSE in verse 32). Notice Jesus said : I will drive out demons TODAY and TOMORROW, and on the THIRD DAY I will reach my goal. He’s talking about 3 days here. It is unnecessary to say that for that to be 3 full days, Jesus will have to start driving out the demons from 12am on the first day and keep doing the next day and reach his goal at 12:am before the 4th day. This is clearly not what is intended. Jesus is just saying that he will drive demons on one day whether he start doing that at anytime do not matter…it will still be one day…and then he will keep doing that the next day…and at any time on the third day he will reach his goal. Another reason 3 days is not to be taken in a strict literal sense is because again according to Luke 24: 1-24 the disciples who knew how to count clearly say that Sunday was the third day since the crucifixion of Jesus. A strict literal 72 hours was never in mind when it comes to the expression “3 days and 3 nights”. Also read Matthew 27: 57-until Matthew 28:10. Basically Jesus died on Preparation day. The next day which was the Sabbath, the priest were scared and remember the prophecy of the 3 days and Pilate sent guards to protect the tomb until the third day from preparation day (Friday) which was the day Jesus died according to Matthew 27: 57 to 63. After the Sabbath (Matthew 28 : 1) a violent earthquake happen, the stones is rolled away and the women are told THE LORD HAS RISEN. AT THE END OF THE DAY, WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT IS THAT JESUS RESURRECTED ON SUNDAY (MARC 16:9)....WHATEVER CALCULATION ONE USE, IT SHOULD ARRIVE AT SUNDAY RESURRECTION BECAUSE THE BIBLE IS CLEAR ABOUT THE RESURRECTION.
