TO DEFEND THE SOVEREIGNTY AND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF THIS LAND - NIGERIA ! Top of the morning, all ! My greetings is to all my fellow compatriots, my fellow Nigerians whether from the East, West, North or South. I greet you ! Whether you are a Muslim, a Christian, an Ifa worshipper and all the myriad of 1001 deities of our land, whether you are even an atheist who hold no believe in any God or deity, I greet you ! A fortnight ago we were all given a ray of hope by no less a personality than the CDS of our Armed Forces, Alex Bardeh, that our government and our common enemy, Boko Haram, in the wisdom of our leaders and through their painstaking efforts, had reached a Ceasefire. Many of us, tired of the mindless killings and mayhem wrought upon our land by Boko Haram, were joyous of this news. Sceptical minds, including yours truly amongst them, doubted the veracity, nay, the appropriateness and timing of such a Ceasefire. Well, events has not borne out the premature celebrations. For, not quite a day after Boko Haram went back to their old ways; did what they knew best doing : killing, maiming, kidnapping women as war booty et.cetera. Thinking heads started asking cogent questions. Some were shouted down; some spoke once and kept quiet, yet some continued to murmur in low decibel their misgivings about this Ceasefire. I, personally, had some points that worried me about the essence and nature of this Ceasefire, to wit : - The Nigerian military were winning the battle; after Konduga we were told it was just a matter of time. That the sect will become history. And, to those who were fond of criticising the military, we were told that Abubakar Shekau had finally died (the guy must have had more lives than a cat : he had been killed several times !). To give a semblance of progress, the government on the other side of Nigeria, Cameroun, made a deal with Boko Haram under which the wife of their Prime Ministers wife was released with scores of Chinese workers kidnapped by Boko Haram. Again, some of us had our migivings, because the deal with Cameroun was, well done with Cameroun. No co-ordinated, regional efforts was made with Nigeria and the neighboring countries. Rumor had it that Boko Haram was $ 3.5 million and some ammunitions richer ! Questions were never asked of the Camerounians or even the Chinese. If it was true that Boko Haram got financial inducement plus additional arms from Cameroun, it behoves on intelligent people to ask the question : To what purpose was this done ? Because, all told, it means in effect that crime pays, at least, for Boko Haram ! - In all of the unending confusion came in Mr. Boni Modu Sheriff, the ex-Governor of Bornu State, Nigeria and President of Tchad, Idris Deby Itno. For the better part of last year when Mr. Sheriff was a member of the opposition APC, Nigerians were made to believe that he was the godhead of Boko Haram. Why he suddenly became a go-between with Nigeria on one side and Tchad and Boko Haram on the other hand, in a sort of convoluted triangle, we were never told. And no one asked questions. We continued, as usual, believing what we were being fed by our government. Their spin doctors were busily informing, or more appropriately misinforming us of positive developments. - Meanwhile, life throttles along in the Nigerian political space. The usual carpet-crossing of our unprincipled politicians criss-crossing from Left-to-Right and vice-versa continues unabated. -The small matter of seized cash in South Africa was amicably resolved through back-door diplomatic means. No one explained anything to the people. The culprits of the butched, amateurish attempt at arms trafficking were restored to goodwill. - The President, the heat off his mind, was left in peace to focus on his life ambition of a second term re-election come 2015. He needed some prayers and it has to be in that land of prayers, Israel. Hey presto, to Jerusalem the President went. In his entourage were the usual Men of God. No one bothered to tell Nigerians the progress of the Ceasefire. Mubi is now under control of Boko Haram. The jihadist flag is flying over the city. This is according to news agency reports from respected agencies and news outlets, BBC World Service; CCTV, France24 et.c . So much for the Ceasefire with Boko Haram ! This government is believing dilligently and fervently in its own lies and deceits. Only two days ago I watched on French television the Nigerian Foreign Minister, Mr. Aminu Wali, flanked by the Foreign Ministers of France and Germany at a press conference waxing lyrical about this their ceasefire. We have to wake up, before we lose this country. A nation whose territorial integrity could not be defended by its armed forces or her citizens is not worth the name. Nigeria is disintegrating before our eyes and we think it is a desert storm in a mirage. Nigerian leaders wake up !
