TODAY’S NOTABLE TEXAN TOM LANDRY For MAY 6th 2014 Tom Landry - Football Legend as Player, Coach and Innovator (Born Thomas Wade Landry in Mission Texas in 1924) He was a star Quarterback for his High School team in Mission and went on to the University of Texas at Austin as an Engineering major. Interrupted his education for a tour of duty in the Air Force during WWII and was a decorated B17 bomber pilot. He then returned to UT Austin and played both fullback and Defensive back for the Longhorns before going on to play professional football after graduation with a Masters in Engineering. He went on to coach for the NY Giants and went on to became the first head coach of the Dallas Cowboys upon their entry into the NFL in 1960. His Cowboys career yielded 13 Divisional Championships and two Superbowls. “Leadership is getting people to do what they dont want to do in order to achieve what they desire to achieve.”
