TODAY IN HISTORY: In 1775, the United Colonies changed their name to the United States. Five years prior the Bishop Robert Smith House was built at 6 Glebe Street, as the parsonage house for St. Philips Episcopal Church and home to the College of Charlestons first president, Bishop Robert Smith. Now the oldest building on the College campus and still home to the College President, this building is a snapshot of a nation in transition, and is an emblem of Charlestonians actions to protect and preserve our historic city.
