In 1962—Jimi Hendrix is honorably discharged from the 101st Airborne Paratroopers, after breaking his ankle during his 26th and final parachute jump. In 1988—Michael Jackson becomes the first artist to achieve five No. 1 singles from one album (Bad) when ‘Dirty Diana’ goes to the top of the US Billboard charts. The other four are the title track, ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’, ’The Way You Make Me Feel’, ‘and ‘Man In The Mirror’. In 2005—Two years after suffering a major stroke, American R&B, soul singer-songwriter and record producer Luther Vandross dies at age 54 at the JFK Medical Center, New Jersey. Vandross worked with Diana Ross, Carly Simon, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Barbara Streisand, Mariah Carey and David Bowie, and had won four Grammys for his final album Dance With My Father.
