TODAY IN MUSIC HISTORY March 16, 2014 Did you know...? Born on this day: (1942) Jerry Jeff Walker, US singer, songwriter, (1959) Flavor Flav (Public Enemy). In 1964—The Beatles set a new record for advance sales in the U.S. with 2,100,000 copies of their latest single ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’. In 1970—Motown singer Tammi Terrell dies of a brain tumor at the age of 24. Initially Terrell recorded solo but from 1967 onwards she recorded a series of duets with Marvin Gaye. She had collapsed onstage into Gaye’s arms on October 14, 1967 during a concert in Hampton, Virginia. In 1972—John Lennon lodges an appeal with the US INS office in New York, after he is served with deportation orders arising from a 1968 cannabis possession conviction. In 1991—Seven members of country singer Reba McEntire’s band and her road manager are among 10 people killed when their private jet crashes in California just north of the Mexican border.
