TODAY IN THE PAST: JUNE 11, 1912 NEW YORK CITY: The Marx brothers make their stage debut with the revue Fun in Hi Skule. As was common on the vaudeville stage, each of the nine original Marx brothers adopted a different ethnic schtick (meaning routine in the language of the ethnics). Everyone remembers Chico (the Italian), Groucho (originally the German and later the Mustachio), Harpo (the Mute), and Zeppo (the Wasp); but few now remember Gummo (the Frenchman), Hobo (the Vagabond), Negro (the Negro), Diggo (the Mole-man), Lichto (the Lichtensteinian), Graucho (the Argentine), Odo (the Shapeshifter), El Demonico (the Mexican Wrestler), and Marxo (the Jew). —More Information Than You Require (2008) \|/ Reposted by: -H- Team /|\ Hodgmania
